Classical Studies – President Witt stated that the Coordinating Board reviews and identifies programs that are not meeting the required number of degrees granted. Nine degrees must be granted in any three-year period. The Classical Studies program produced only four degrees during the three-year period reviewed by the Coordinating Board. To further review this program, the number of degrees awarded during an eight-year period was found to be only 13. This is not a reflection on the quality of students, faculty, or the program, but the degree will be abandoned. We will keep a minor in Classics, and there still will be the opportunity under the Philosophy Classics Option to do substantial coursework in this area. Interdisciplinary Studies also has a program with a focus on classics. Since there are a number of programs that are near the threshold of this Coordinating Board requirement, we are not in a position to petition for retention of this program. It will not be necessary to eliminate any tenured or tenure track positions.

A proposal to add catalog text to clarify Minors was also presented and approved.
Current text on page 40 of the catalog:
Minor Field of Study
A minor requires at least 18 semester hours in a given program, including six hours of advanced work. Specific course sequences for a minor are determined by the program offering the minor. Since some undergraduate degree programs do not offer minors, students should consult an advisor in their program of study.
Proposed additional text as clarification:
In a case where the student wishes to pursue a minor comprised of courses within the same College as that which offers his/her major program of study, the student and his/her advisor will propose a program of study/list of courses for approval by the Dean of the College.
In a case where the student wishes to pursue a minor which includes one or more courses offered by a different College from that which offers his/her major program of study, the student and his/her advisor will propose a program of study/list of courses for approval by both a) the Dean of the college which offers his/her major, and b) the Dean of the College which offers the minor courses.
In either case, the approved minor program of study will be forwarded to the Office of the Registrar for verification and notation on the student’s transcript.
Other Business. There was no other business.
Remarks by the President. President Witt reported that all construction activity is moving along according to schedule. Final approval is expected soon for the next phase of our apartment complex. Site preparation is already underway and the complex will be open by next August. Plans for the new Science building are progressing. Even though the cost of the building is increasing, it will be constructed to meet the needs of the college.
All indications are that we will have a robust increase in enrollment for Spring, and we have already gotten a start on faculty recruiting for next Fall.
President Witt feels that while the next legislative session will be difficult, we have a strong delegation supporting UTA, and they will go into the session well prepared.
Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 2:40 p.m.
